COMSTAR and SITRONICS deploy pilot wireless broadband network in Ukraine

September 14, 2009, Moscow, Kiev, Odessa: COMSTAR – United TeleSystems (JSC COMSTAR-UTS, LSE: CMST), the leading provider of integrated telecommunication services in Russia and the CIS, announces that COMSTAR-Ukraine, COMSTAR-UTS’ affiliate, and SITRONICS Information Technologies, one of the leading providers of IT solutions, products and services in the CIS and Eastern Europe, completed the joint project to deploy pilot wireless broadband network in Kiev and Odessa.

Under this project, both companies designed and deployed a broadband radio communication system to ensure fragmented coverage of multiple Kiev and Odessa districts. The network uses 5 GHz Proxim broadband access equipment.

COMSTAR-Ukraine wireless broadband network is based on multi-service data network that is built with the help of NGN (Next Generation Network) solutions.

“Development of the wireless broadband network is one our steps to provide our subscribers with a broader range of services and technologies. Pilot network operation will enable us to define and introduce the most demanded and successful service configurations to meet requirements of our customers as completely as possible,” Igor Shcherbik, Director of COMSTAR-Ukraine, said.

“Growth of wireless broadband Internet in Ukraine is becoming one of the market trends today. The broadband subscriber base keeps growing despite economic challenges. Wide expansion of next generation networks will make such services more affordable and improve their quality. Our company has rich experience and high level competence to develop new data transmission standards in Ukraine,” Anatoly Veres, General Director of SITRONICS Information Technologies in Ukraine, said.
