On the 16th of July in the City of Toropets (Tver region) a meeting of the heads of governments of the region's southwest, representatives of CenterTelecom General Directorate and the company’s Tver branch was held. The practical issues of providing telephone communications to WW2 disabled veterans were reviewed. Vladimir Vasiliev, Security Committee Chairman of the RF State Duma; Pyotr Martyshechkin and Igor Kuklin, heads of CenterTelecom Tver branch departments; Tver branch director Evgenii Savenkov and representatives of Tver region administration participated in the discussion of the 2003-2010 Rural Telecom Networks Development Program.
- The dialog between the communication providers and authorities was very constructive and showed general interest in addressing important issues in the regional communications development of social nature first of all, - pointed out CenterTelecom Radio Communications and Broadcasting Department Director Pyotr Martyshechkin.
Previous experience demonstrates the efficiency of CenterTelecom cooperation with the regional and local authorities in the field of communications development.
- CenterTelecom branch is paying a very close attention to providing telephone services to the war veterans. During the last 5 years 2.5 thousand disabled war veterans gained access to the local telephone network. This year they received another 700 phones, - said Evgenii Savenkov at the meeting.
CenterTelecom Tver branch undertook to provide telephone services to all disabled war veterans by the end of this year. Those disabled war veterans who applied for phone installation by 1.01.2004 will be hooked up in July.
At the meeting Evgenii Savenkov and Vladimir Vasiliev awarded certificates for free phone installation to three disabled war veterans, Ivan Ignatievich Pavlov, Fyodor Yakovlevich Pankratiev and Valentina Sergeevna Pavlova, Toropets residents. They applied for telephone installation only in 2004.
CenterTelecom Tver branch management and staff highly appreciate the support offered by the Head of Toropets region government Valerii Tkachev and his colleagues in solving organizational issues related to providing telephone communications to the war veterans.
Full coverage of Tver region with phone network where 3400 rural populated areas out of 9000 do not have telephones is an important issue to be addressed in the future. This is what the program has been developed for. It is just the beginning. Other districts of the region are waiting for their turn.
