Moscow, 22 December 2004. Today, Russia, the CIS countries and the Baltic republics are celebrating the Energy Workers' Day for the 84th time. This professional holiday dates back to December 1920, when the first energy policy programme—the GOELRO plan—was adopted. The plan identified the goals for the electrification as a basis for the development of the national economy in the USSR.
By the way, today is the day with the shortest daylight hours and the longest night in the Northern hemisphere. However, this will not prevent us from providing heat and electricity to your homes, and the power supply in the country will be as reliable and uninterrupted as always.
