OJSC CenterTelecom has been announced the winner of a Ministry of Communications tender for the provision of rights to use radio frequencies for the transmission of television programs using a Multi-channel Multi-point Distribution System (MMDS) in the cities of Serpukhov, Klin, Chekhov, Solnechnogorsk and Khotkovo.
When this project gets off the ground, OJSC CenterTelecom will become another cellular television operator in the Moscow region. Unlike commercial operators, however, the company intends to develop multi-channel television (12 - 14 channels) not only in large cities but also in rural areas.
Moreover, cellular television transmitters will also be used to provide broad-band access for personal computers to the Internet, which includes rolling out the federal program "Electronic Russia" in the suburbs of Moscow.
