Moscow, Russian Federation – Mobile TeleSystems OJSC (the “Company” or “MTS” – NYSE: MBT), the leading telecommunications provider in Russia and the CIS, notes the Interfax report on 18 June of comments made by Vladimir Evtushenkov, the Chairman of Sistema, MTS’ majority shareholder, regarding the potential further consolidation of Comstar by MTS. The Board of Directors of MTS reaffirms its previously stated position that any further consolidation or integration of Comstar by MTS will be decided upon by the MTS Board of Directors and that it is considering all options in this respect.
