Meeting on utilization of electrically driven gas pumping units at Portovaya compressor station

Today at the Gazprom Headquarters Alexander Ananenkov, Acting Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee moderated a meeting on utilization of electrically driven gas pumping units (GPUs) at the Portovaya compressor station for the Grazovets-Vyborg gas pipeline under construction.

Attending the meeting were heads and specialists of the core business units of Gazprom, Giprospetsgaz, Yamalgazinvest as well as heads from the Federal Atomic Power Agency, Rosenergoatom and Roselectropromholding.

The meeting examined a conceptual project developed by Giprosetsgaz for electrically driven GPU utilization at the Portovaya based on the technical commercial proposals of ABB (Norway) and Convertim (France). It is planned to construct a dc power transmission cable line from the Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant via the Gulf of Finland seabed aimed at energy supply to the Portovaya.

The heads of the Federal Atomic Energy Agency informed the participants about the existing opportunity to supply electricity to the Portovaya in a long term.

The meeting resulted in decision to finalize the conceptual project due to the proposals of Roselectropromholding, gas and electricity price forecast over 2010 to 2025, impact on the environment and payments for greenhouse gas pollutions. The decision on electrically driven or gas turbine GPU utilization at the Portovaya will be approved in the first decade of July 2007 after the detailed consideration of all factors.

Reference:

The Portovaya compressor station will be situated at the Russian Baltic Sea coast at the Portovaya bay near the town of Vyborg in the Leningrad Oblast. The compressor station will be a part of the Gryazovets-Vyborg gas pipeline under construction aimed at gas supply via the Nord Stream gas pipeline.
