Moscow, 2 May 2006. One year ago, on 1 May 2005, RAO UES enterprises started trading in the free trading segment of Siberia's wholesale electricity market.*
Over the past year, 31 entities (including 19 subsidiaries and dependent companies of RAO "UES of Russia" (RAO UES SDCs)) traded in the free trading segment of the wholesale electricity market for the Siberian price area. Since then, 4.9 billion kWh of electricity has been sold in the Siberian price area of the competitive electricity market, with the competitive sales of electricity in the area rising 31% compared to the trading launch date.
The average weighted electricity price in the Siberian price area, which is characterized by a large share of hydrogeneration, was RUB389.30 per MWh.
The participants in Siberia's free trading segment concluded 17 bilateral electricity purchase/sale contracts. The savings generated by RAO UES SDCs from the work in the Siberian free trading segment are in excess of RUB100 million.
Two and a half years ago, on 1 November 2003, trading first took place in the free trading segment of the wholesale electricity market (European part of Russia and Urals)**, with RAO UES entities taking part in the trading. Since the launch of the free trading segment of the wholesale electricity market for the European part of Russia, Urals, and Siberian price areas, 201 entities have taken part in the trading, including 137 SDCs of RAO "UES of Russia". The savings generated by RAO UES SDCs from the operations in the free trading segment are over RUB2 billion.
