On July 2-15, 2004 AIA (the Angolan Industrial Association) together with Expo Angola will hold the FILDA - 2004 International Trade Fair in the Angolan capital Luanda for the 21st consecutive time. Exhibitors from over 25 countries are expected to take part in this annual event.
Considerable focus at the further exhibition will be on the activities of mining and primarily diamond mining companies present in Angola. As is generally known, diamond mining in that country presents very promising opportunities. Altogether 800 kimberlite pipes have been discovered in Angola since geological exploration began there. However only 5 of them have been explored thoroughly, including Catoka now developed by a joint venture with ALROSA.
At its exposition at FILDA – 2004 the Russian diamond producer will present the whole range of opportunities it can offer for technical and economic co-operation in Africa.
Today ALROSA is engaged in the construction of a new ore treatment facility at the Catoka mine. It is also working to start production at the Camatchia and Camagico pipes and is involved in construction of a hydroelectric power plant on the Chicapa River. These new joint ventures will enable ALROSA to increase its current level of diamond production in Angola nearly two-fold, cut down production costs and considerably improve social situation in the Lunda Sul province of Angola.
To co-ordinate its different activities in Africa the company has established its ALROSA–Africa subsidiary in Angola on the basis of its representative office, and ALROSA-Vneshstroy construction company.
At its booth ALROSA will also present several Russian financial institutions, research institutes and engineering companies.
As part of the program of Day of ALROSA at the fair on 13th July, meetings of the company’s representatives with Angolan officials, industry leaders and businessmen, as well as heads of foreign delegations from different countries will take place. Visitors will have an opportunity to learn about ALROSA’s recent achievements in exploration, diamond mining and recovery, construction of hydroelectric power facilities, large industrial and social buildings, personnel training for construction and diamond industries.
For the first time at the fair ALROSA will present a laser show about its activities.
An invitation for ALROSA to participate in FILDA – 2004 is a confirmation of Russia ‘s growing international influence and greater credibility of Russian manufactures.
