Moscow, 2 November 2005. According to preliminary data, in the first ten months of 2005, the power plants of RAO "UES of Russia" increased generation of electricity by 1.7% to 526.8 billion kWh from 535.5 billion kWh in the same period the year before.
The thermal power plants of RAO "UES of Russia" generated 429.2 billion kWh, up 3.1% on the same period last year, whereas the hydropower plants produced 106.3 billion kWh, down 3.7% in year-on-year terms. Such a decrease in the output by hydropower plants was due to the lower reservoir levels at some HPPs during the period under review as a result of reduced rainfall.
The electricity consumption in Russia amounted to 745.8 billion kWh in January to October 2005, which represents an increase of 1.6% on the same period of 2004 (734.1 billion kWh).
According to the reports, the power plants of the RAO "UES of Russia" generated 57.4 billion kWh in October 2005, up 0.7% from the same period last year. The thermal power plants generated 47.8 billion kWh of electricity, while the hydropower plants produced 9.6 billion kWh.
