Moscow, September 01, 2008. OJSC INTER RAO UES will take part in the bid for the construction of a 42-MW Al-Kamshah wind farm in Jordan. The construction site is located 30 km north of Jordan’s capital – Amman. The project implementation scheme is ‘build-own-operate’. The project span is 20 years.

Participation in this investment project provides for design, delivery of equipment and machinery, construction, operation and maintenance of the wind farm’s turbo generators and the power supply substation, as well as its connection to the power supply network. According to the bid terms the purchase of electric power  generated by the wind farm will be performed entirely by Jordan’s Ministry of Energy.

The decision for OJSC INTER RAO UES to take part in the wind farm construction was made under the auspices of the strategic initiative ‘Renewable Energy Sources’ which has been implemented by the Company since March 2008. It is assumed that in case of winning the bid a 100% subsidiary of OJSC INTER RAO UES would be established in the territory of Jordan. The new power generation facility would be on its balance sheet.

The agreement to prepare the feasibility study and technical proposal was signed with ESB International. The draft feasibility study based on which the project’s financial model had been developed was completed in late July 2008.

The bid by OJSC INTER RAO UES, as well as the technical and financial proposal for the construction project was submitted on August 31, 2008. The key criterion for selecting the winner is the total project efficiency including the cost of generated electric power. The bid results are expected to be announced in October 2008.

Construction of this wind farm is a pilot project for OJSC INTER RAO UES. Participation in the project will enable the Company to increase the value of its business, as well as to gain invaluable experience required for implementation of comparable projects in other countries and, importantly, to gain its generation market share in Jordan. The wind farm construction is particularly important for OJSC INTER RAO UES in light of the Company’s aspiration to implement a number of other, larger projects in the territory of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan which has a strategic place among electric power importing countries.
