March 23, 1998 - A seventh annual Tyumen region festival of television news programs brought together 22 local TV companies in Kogalym, western Siberia, on March 19-21.
Companies from Tyumen, Khanty-Mansiisk, Salekhard, Surgut, Nizhnevartovsk, Nadym, Kogalym and other cities and towns in the region took part in the festival, organized by the Infoservis company of Kogalym and sponsored by the OOO LUKOIL Western Siberia company.
The main prize was awarded to Urai-TV of Urai "for a particular humanitarian approach to presenting news items." There were seven minor prizes, those for the highest professional standards, the highest information intensity, the earliest reporting of events, the highest topicality and the best editing, photography and presentation.
The jury included Semyon Vainshtok, General Director of OOO LUKOIL-Western Siberia, Alexander Gavrin, mayor of Kogalym, Anatoly Omelchuk, president of the Region Tyumen television and radio company, Alexander Gurnov, General Director of the TSN television news service, Sergei Isakov, director of the REN-TV regional network, Pyotr Fyodorov, editor in chief of REN-TV's news service, and Mikhail Degtyar, commentator of RTR television's Vesti news program.
The jury said the festival had shown that Tyumen region's television had raised its professionalism and met modern presentation standards.
