29 July, 1997. - At 9:00 a.m. local time July 28, the two-storeyed brick administrative building of the Chernushkaneft, an oil production division of the LUKOIL-Permneft oil enterprise, collapsed in the village of Kuyeda in the Perm region. An administrative conference was on when the tragedy occurred. According to preliminary reports, from 25 to 30 people were buried under the rubble. The bodies of eleven victims have been removed from the rubble. Several other victims have received serious injuries and were hospitalized. The rest are still to be saved.
Rescuers of the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations and a FSB group work on the site of the tragedy, taking measures to save the people and performing clean-up operations. The causes of the disaster are being investigated. LUKOIL's Vice President Vagit Sharifov has flown out to Kuyeda from Moscow.
