In early July 2004, 300 MWt power unit no. 4 was launched at GRES-4 after an overhaul. As a result of the upgrade, a new high-tech equipment was installed that met all modern power industry requirements.
The work on this unit at GRES-4 started in April 2004. The overhaul included the reconstruction of the main parts—the boiler, the turbine, the generator, steam lines and automated control system. In particular, the previous obsolete control system was replaced with the modern automated turbine regulation based on the SSS equipment (from the US) that will help to increase the efficiency of the power usage.
The upgraded power unit at GRES-4 was launched ahead of schedule after the end of a two-day complex testing that produced no evidence of technical faults in the operation of new equipment. Now, power unit no.4 will operate in the mode of «controlled operation.» During this month, the specialists from the power station jointly with specialists from Mosenergonaladka will monitor the operation of the power unit.
Kashirskaya GRES-4 is one of the first coal stations that was built under the state electrification plan (GOELRO). As of today, the power station produces around 10% of AO MOSENERGO output. The installed capacity of six power units of GRES-4 is 1,580 MWt. Kashirskaya power station produces almost 6 bn kWt-h of electricity and 430,000 GCal of heat.
